Thoughts on the first Commandment

he first commandment teaches us how we should give God all of our praise and worship him only. Genesis 20:2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, you shall have no other God’s before me. If we put something before God for example: watching Television when you’re meant to be doing family prayer which is a sin because you’re putting something before God. Saints cannot be said as Idolatry because they are our role models and we only seek their intercession. Sorcery and black magic are grave sins against the first commandment.When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you; you must not learn to imitate the abhorrent practices of those nations.No one shall be found among you who makes a son or daughter pass through fire, or who practices divination, or is a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer,or one who casts spells, or who consults ghosts or spirits, or who seeks oracles from the dead.For whoever does these things is abhorrent to the Lord; it is because of such abhorrent practices that the Lord your God is driving them out before you. God performs many miracles and we shouldn’t underestimate him by believing in sorcery. The divine virtues Faith, Hope and Love are the gifts of God and help us to follow his commandment.Let us all follow his commandment and place God in our lives besides anything.
